do not love the strong, independent woman
if you are not ready
for the journey she has given breath and soul
to take.

farther than restrooms for all genders and race,
farther than equal pay rates in the workplace;
she will conquer kingdoms and overthrow monarchies,
if you just give her a pen.

farther than eradicating sexual harassment on the streets,
farther than stereotypical roles in the family she meets;
she will make the tables turn,
if you just give her the space.

farther than protests on every corner,
farther than teaching young girls “how to be a daughter”;
she will redefine what it means to be a woman,
if you just give her a chance.

she has come so far with no man by her side,
she can go farther still.
